About Cahaya Adil
A practice founded on patience and professional care
We were established to address a gap in how pension and retirement legal matters are typically handled — with less room for questions than the complexity of these matters often requires.

Where Cahaya Adil began
Cahaya Adil was founded in Kuala Lumpur by practitioners who had spent years working within larger legal structures and noticed, repeatedly, that individuals navigating pension and retirement questions were often left with less time and space than the subject warranted. Forms were completed. Documents were signed. But the underlying questions — about what a nomination actually meant, or how a beneficiary's position would be affected — frequently went unaddressed.
The practice was established with the specific intention of working differently. We take fewer matters at any given time so that each one receives proper attention. The first conversation with a client is treated as a listening exercise, not a preliminary to billing. And every engagement ends with something in writing — a summary, a report, a completed document — so the client leaves with a tangible outcome.
The name reflects this intention. Cahaya — light, clarity. Adil — fair, measured. These are the qualities we try to bring to every matter we are asked to assist with.
Our Mission
What guides our work
Clarity in complex matters
Pension and retirement arrangements in Malaysia involve a number of intersecting frameworks. We take care to explain what applies to each client's specific position, rather than offering a general overview that may not reflect their circumstances.
Direction without pressure
We provide professional guidance. We do not steer clients towards particular decisions, and we do not create conditions where a client feels they must act within a particular timeframe. The pace of each engagement is set by the client.
Records that stand on their own
Whether the work is a consultation summary, a notarised declaration, or a family review report, we write documents that can be understood and referred to independently — without needing to call us to interpret them.
The People

Our team is small by design. Each practitioner carries direct responsibility for the matters they are assigned, and clients speak with the same person throughout the engagement.

These are not aspirational statements. They describe the actual practices that govern how we work with each client and how we handle the information entrusted to us.
Malaysian Bar membership
All practising members of Cahaya Adil hold valid annual practising certificates issued by the Malaysian Bar and comply with its professional conduct rules.
Client confidentiality protocols
All client information is handled under strict confidentiality procedures. Physical files are stored securely and digital records are maintained on encrypted, access-controlled systems.
Notarisation compliance
All notarised documents are prepared and executed in accordance with the requirements of the Notaries Public Act 1959 and applicable subordinate legislation in Malaysia.
Annual knowledge review
Our practitioners undertake structured annual reviews of developments in EPF regulations, pension legislation, and estate law to ensure advice given reflects the current position.
Written terms before engagement
Scope, fee, and timeline are confirmed in writing before any chargeable work begins. No additional charges are incurred without prior written agreement.
Client review at each stage
Draft documents are shared for review before any final step is taken. The client has the opportunity to raise questions and request changes before anything is finalised or signed.
Our Area of Practice
Pension legal work in the Malaysian context
Pension and retirement arrangements in Malaysia draw on several distinct frameworks. The Employees Provident Fund, established under the EPF Act 1991, governs the accumulation and withdrawal of contributions made by employees and employers over a working life. Alongside this sit voluntary retirement schemes, private pension arrangements, and public sector pension entitlements, each with its own documentation and nomination requirements.
The legal dimensions of these arrangements — particularly around beneficiary nominations, the handling of accounts upon incapacity, and the preparation of statutory declarations for withdrawal — are not always well understood by those they affect most directly. The consequences of documentation left incomplete or out of date can be significant, particularly where a family is navigating a bereavement or a member's withdrawal from the workforce due to health.
Cahaya Adil focuses on this specific area. Our practitioners have worked on pension-related legal matters for individuals at different stages — those in mid-career who have not yet attended to their nomination documents, those approaching retirement who wish to understand their position clearly, and families working through the estate of someone who has passed. Each situation is handled with the attention its particular circumstances require.
We are based at No. 41, Jalan Tun Sambanthan in Kuala Lumpur, and see clients by appointment. For those who are not able to attend in person, we can accommodate written correspondence and telephone consultations for appropriate stages of an engagement.
